New York’s three luxury department stores – Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom – are set to open new retail units in New York, over the next few years, catering to the demands and needs of a clientele of millionaires.
Nordstrom, indeed, has plans to open a 285,000-square-foot, 7-storey store at 225 West 57th Street in 2018, which cost around 300 million dollars, thanks to an agreement with Extell Development.

Neiman Marcus, on the other hand, plans to open a department store covering around 23 thousand square meters in a new residential complex in Hudson Yards on the West Side, and Saks has signed a deal to open a store in Brookfield Place in Battery Park City near the World Trade Centre.
These stores are focused on the super rich, offering an international selection of designer clothing, shoes, jewellery, cars and even private jets.
Even Macy’s has changed its sales strategy, focussing more on tourists and the so called Millenials (born between 1980 and 2000) in search of luxury brands. The “My Macy’ strategy includes adapting the product assortment to the demands and needs of its customers.
In addition, Neiman Marcus, which also owns Bergdorf Goodman, plans to refurbish its department store on Fifth Ave.
